Accommodation and welfare of overseas students

1 August 2019

CRICOS schools must ensure that international students have somewhere to stay and someone to care for them.

International students are issued a Confirmation of Appropriate Accommodation and Welfare (CAAW) letter when they receive their Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).

The school provider is responsible for the student’s welfare throughout the CoE and seven days after the date specified on the CoE.

The CoE is linked to the student’s visa.

Example: A student’s CoE ceases on a Friday. The next available flight departing Australia is four days after the CoE finishes. The school provider is still responsible for the welfare of the student. This includes providing appropriate accommodation until the student leaves Australia.
