Changes to National Regulations in SA
Education Council has agreed to amendments to the Education and Care Services National Regulations 2011.
These changes enable new educators who don’t have an approved qualification and are working at a centre-based service—with children preschool age or under—to be counted as having an approved certificate III qualification for up to three months.
The changes also allow a 1:11 educator-to-child ratio in all SA centre-based services for children over 36 months of age, up to and including preschool age.
We will let providers and services know when the start date is confirmed.
There will be no change for SA Government preschools. The 1:10 ratio for disadvantaged department preschools remains in place.
Providers can maintain existing educator ratios through service policy and operational decisions.
