COVID-19 update from Department for Education

23 November 2020

We received this information from the Department for Education today:

This advice is current as of Monday 23 November. Further updates may be needed as Directions are updated.

Assemblies, ceremonies and end of year events

Events on school or preschool sites can continue, however attendance outside the staff and student body should be minimised.

Events held at public venues must comply with current COVID restrictions (an approved COVID-Safe plan or COVID Management Plan and capped attendance).

Camps and excursions

Excursions can continue. Please check with the venue you’re visiting to ensure they’re open and accepting school groups.

It is recommended that if a school or preschool is visiting/using a public venue, that you be clear on your responsibilities and obligations. It’s suggested schools ask for a copy of the venue/operators COVID-Safe or COVID Management Plan.

All schools with a camp booked between now and the end of the school year must contact the COVID response team on education.Covidcoordination [at] sa.gov.au. Each camp will be assessed with SA Health on a case by case basis.

Swimming

Swimming and aquatic lessons can continue on school grounds, at lakes and beaches.

School pools cannot currently open for community use.

The updated Directions have confirmed that public pools are not able to offer swimming lessons at this time.

School sport

Any school sport organised on school grounds can continue.

No more than two schools can compete in interschool sports competitions on school grounds. Attendance information of all students and staff attending should be kept.

SAPSASA and other school carnival events must be cancelled for the remainder of the school year.

Sports held at public venues should only occur if the venue is open and accepting school groups.

It is recommended that if a school or preschool is visiting/using a public venue, that you be clear on your responsibilities and obligations. Its suggested schools ask for a copy of the COVID-Safe Plan or COVID Management Plan.
