Door guards keep little fingers safe

2 July 2019

Getting your finger shut in a door as a child can cause more than just tears. It can be very serious.

Injuries can include crushed or broken fingers and can even result in amputation.

Apart from the obvious pain, a finger injury can affect children’s ability to play and learn while they recover.

There is a simple prevention: door finger guards and hinge guards.

New services should install finger guards or consider alternative solutions. This is part of taking reasonable precautions to prevent injury to children, as required by the National Law.

We strongly recommend all services to have these installed.

There are a range of designs of finger guards and door hinge guards that can be retrofitted to most doors.
