Keep first aid up-to-date

26 March 2020

Training in First Aid, Anaphylaxis and Asthma management and CPR is a key measure in minimising harm for children in education and care services. We know of a number of training providers that are still offering training, including a very limited amount of CPR training.

We remind centre based services and providers that at least one staff member or nominated supervisor holding the required current qualification must be immediately available at all times.

At this point in time we are not considering waivers for first aid qualifications because we understand that on line training, except for CPR, is still available. People may wish to undertake this part online and only do the CPR face to face given the social distancing requirements – minimising contact.

For the same reasons we continue to require Family Day Care Educators and educator Assistants to keep their first aid qualifications current if they intend to provide education and care to children.

We will advise you in a later news item if this requirement changes.
