‘No jab, no play’ law introduced

30 September 2019

Susceptible children may now be excluded from early childhood services by the chief public health officer during the outbreak of a disease that can be prevented by vaccination.

This law came into effect on 1 July, with changes to the South Australian Public Health Act 2011.

It has sometimes been referred to as ‘No jab, no play’ legislation in the media.

Services such as child care, family day care, preschool, kindergarten and early learning centres are included in this law.

Early childhood services will have to keep immunisation records of children attending their service from 1 January 2020.

Further information will be available soon from SA Health.
