A step towards reconciliation

03 August 2020

The Education Standards Board (ESB) formally committed to reconciliation with the launch of its Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) last month.

The ‘Reflect’ RAP was developed by a group of our staff with an interest in reconciliation between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Australians.

A RAP is a document that includes practical actions to help an organisation support reconciliation.

Our commitment is to reflect on our current actions, engage with local Aboriginal people and businesses, increase staff knowledge about Aboriginal cultures and history, and promote reconciliation in education and early childhood services.

Tony Healy, Schools registration officer, was part of the group of ESB staff who developed the RAP. He said it was important because it provided “opportunities to increase our knowledge and understanding” about Aboriginal cultures.

Services and schools interested in creating a RAP can visit the Reconciliation Australia website.
