Approved Learning Frameworks
Now is the time to ensure you are using the updated versions of the two Approved Learning Frameworks (ALFs) under the National Quality Framework, following the transition year of 2023.
The Belonging, Being and Becoming: The Early Years learning Framework for Australia (EYLF) and the My time, Our Place: Framework for School Age Care in Australia (MTOP) have been updated following sector consultation and recommendations and come into effect on 1 February 2024.
Version 2 brings a stronger connection with the National Quality Standards in areas such as:
- Strengthening Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives
- Strengthening the principle of ongoing learning and reflective practice
- Introducing sustainability principles
- Partnerships with other professionals
- Strengthening the principle of ongoing learning
We will begin assessing against the new approved learning frameworks from 1 February and the original EYLF and MTOP will cease to be recognised under National Law. This means services must be able to demonstrate that they are using these documents to inform their program and practice.
ACECQA have developed a series of resources to support services to become familiar with the refreshed national frameworks. This includes information sheets, posters, and FAQs.
New resources have recently been added, including a match the glossary terms game to encourage your team to actively engage with the refreshed approved learning frameworks and the revised terminology used throughout. Using this game can help build an understanding of the terminology within the approved learning frameworks and promote reflective discussions on how these words are evident in your educational programs and practice.
