Check educator not prohibited before employing
03 August 2021
Employers must check that an educator is not prohibited from working with children before employing them.
If the new employee already has a Working with Children Check (WWCC) check, it is not enough to just sight the WWCC confirmation email. You must verify it.
To check, see 'How do I verify a person's Working with Children Check?', which is under ‘Verify a person has had a Working with Children Check’ on the Department of Human Services (DHS) website.
WWCCs are continuously monitored by the Screening Unit of DHS. If new information means a person’s clearance is changed or revoked, this will be updated online.
It’s important to have a portal set up for your organisation to stay current on WWCC information.
