National Child Protection Week 2024

27 September 2024

National Child Protection Week (NCPW) took place from 1-7 September 2024. The National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (NAPCAN) has been coordinating NCPW for over 30 years with the hope of engaging and educating Australians on their part in keeping children and young people safe.

The 2024 NCPW theme 'Every conversation matters' complements the consistent message of Every child in every community needs a fair go.

Change begins with conversation and is a powerful tool in keeping children and young people safe and well. This is not just conversations with children and their families, but between educators, doctors and other professions that support young people to thrive.

NAPCAN opened NCPW with a launch webinar event on 2 September before hosting a further six webinars throughout the week. Their topics were:

  • Child protection services need a culture shift - NOW.
  • Intergenerational collaboration in the pursuit to protect Aboriginal children.
  • Hear from young people about their recommendations in preventing abuse and neglect for ALL children.
  • Working with culturally and linguistically diverse children in out-of-home care.
  • The link between media and child protection systems - how to change the narrative.
  • The digital playground: safeguard young people/s future.

NAPCAN will release the webinar recordings on their website by the end of 2024.

Their 2023 webinars are also available to view.
